May 14 - Jul 1, 2011
Opening: May 13, 6:00 PM-10:00 PM
This curated group painting show explores the interplay between high art and subculture. These artists are working in traditional mediums to achieve an aesthetic more closely related to work seen on back alleys, skateboards and record sleeves.
"Figurative painting and drawing has retreated from the spotlight in many publicly funded contemporary galleries but it remains far from a lost art. Skateboarding, street art, tattooing and punk record sleeves have been selectively pulling from traditional high art while generating branching aesthetic subcultures."
-Lyall Brownlee, curator
