Jonathan Lockyer: Executive Director & Curator
Jon Lockyer is a curator, educator, and writer from Toronto, Ontario. Lockyer’s interest as a curator focuses on issues of social and political engagement, and that challenges the aesthetic and pedagogical boundaries of contemporary art. More specifically, Lockyer is interested in Indigenous art and curatorial practices that have originated in North America since the early 1960s. Lockyer received his BA from Trent University in Canadian Studies, and recently completed an MFA at OCAD University in Criticism and Curatorial Practice. He has worked previously at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (Santa Fe, NM), the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto, ON) and C Magazine. Lockyer currently lives in Peterborough, Ontario where he is the Director of Artspace.
Bec Groves: Associate Director – Programming & Development
Bec Groves received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University and a diploma in Non-Profit Arts Management from Western University. Bec has a background in photography and textile work. Bec is currently the Associate Director at Artspace and the Director of Operations for Papirmass Art Subscription. Bec has a strong belief that art is for everyone and has spent her career in arts focused on making art accessible for all.
Hannah Keating: Programming Assitant
Hannah Keating is an emerging curator, writer, and researcher. After receiving an MA in Art History from Carleton University in 2016, she completed curatorial internships at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the University of Manitoba School of Art Gallery. Hannah’s interest in the cultural functions of space and place has shaped her curatorial work and informed parallel interests in the topics of land, ecology, borders, and language, and their relation to contemporary art and life.
